Vermilion Dental Practice

When Vermilion Dental Surgery in Edinburgh approached NVDC Architects, they were seeking a highly considered transformation of an empty shell unit within a converted traditional villa. The vision was to create a specialist dental referral practice that balanced clinical efficiency with a calming, open atmosphere.

Specialist Dental Practice Design in Edinburgh

The design brief called for a bright, spacious interior that could accommodate advanced dental procedures while ensuring comfort for both patients and staff. Our response was guided by a sensitivity to space, light, and flow - key elements in healthcare environments where user experience is paramount.

Maximising Light and Space with Contemporary Detailing

One of the core challenges was working within the spatial constraints of the existing villa shell. To overcome this, our design incorporated extensive glass partitioning, allowing natural light to filter throughout the practice while preserving the privacy required for treatment spaces.

This transparency is enhanced by the free-flowing curved walls, which soften transitions between rooms and create a sense of continuity across the practice. The result is a clinic that feels spacious, organic, and bright - an uncommon yet deeply welcome experience in medical interior design.

Healthcare Architecture with Human-Centred Design

NVDC Architects specialise in healthcare facility design across Scotland, with a strong portfolio of dental clinic architecture in both Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands. This project builds on lessons learned from previous successful commissions, including Eilertsen Dental Care in Inverness, where we also prioritised light, ambience, and operational efficiency.

Our approach always involves close collaboration with our clients and their consultants - especially critical in healthcare projects where IT infrastructure, clinical flow, and patient care all intersect.

A message from our client:

"I have been very impressed by architect Farahbod Nakhaei and his team at NVDC. They produced a gorgeous design for our clinic, taking what was a very regular space and bringing it to life with curves and light. There is a calmness to the accommodation, which makes it a pleasure to work in. This is no fluke, as their previous project in Inverness, Eilertsen Dental Care, has a similar ambience.

Farahbod and Malcolm are highly professional in their approach, and in particular, their communication at every stage was excellent. As the client, I felt fully informed of what matters I needed to be aware of, but shielded from the rest. NVDC and Ian Wilson, my IT contractor, have now completed a number of projects together, and the integration of IT within the build was seamless. I was also very impressed by the tradesmen that NVDC employed for the 10-week fit out. They clearly took a lot a pride in their work, and the result was we finished on-budget and 10 days early.

I would not hesitate in recommending NVDC. Not only are they excellent professionals; they are good men."
