The project involved internal alterations and change of use from a former betting shop to form the new dental practice within Broomhill Shopping Centre.
The key focus of the design has been to develop a casual café style atmosphere for the waiting area which is aimed at creating a calm, welcoming, and less intimidating environment for nervous patients. Glass partitioning has been used extensively, particularly along the clinical corridor, in order to break down visual and physical barriers to surgeries, thus creating a greater sense of space and openness leading to a feeling of calm throughout the practice.
A message from our client:
“Angela and I decided to open a squat dental practice in 2015. We had no experience in doing this and so we knew we would need a lot of help. NVDC Architects was recommended to us by a friend who spoke very highly of them and had a similar job done a few years earlier.
We met with Farahbod and Malcolm once we had a site in mind and they took it from there. Initially we spent a lot of time working with Farahbod to get the plans exactly how we wanted and then work started in December 2015. We initially toyed with the idea of project managing it ourselves but, having seen Malcolm in action and taking into account all that he did, I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t have made it without him. He kept us in the loop constantly and, even though there were still a lot of decisions for us to make, it all went really smoothly.
Most importantly for us, they came in on budget and on time, which was absolutely great. We were under the impression that architects make drawings of the practice and not much else. Thankfully this was not the case. Being a complete novice in such things, Farahbod and his team managed the project from start to finish. Interviewing builders, drawing up contracts and holding them to account if complications arose. They were responsible for Designing the layout, Dealing with planning, ensuring we were compliant with NHS rules, Interviewing contractors, negotiating costs, setting the contract with time lines and managing the build.
We have now asked Farahbod to design and oversee construction of our new extension. We could not recommend them highly enough.”
