Reworking of the layout was central to this project: rather than extending, the focus was to optimise and alter the existing house to form a more coherent layout with enhanced flow and natural lighting. The expansion of the garden level room into the part of the floorplan that had previously only been a generous undercroft and used as storage meant we were able to form a new family room and associated ancillary spaces with access onto the substantial back garden where there previously was none. New large format glazing to both the family room and the upper ground living area opens each space and provides views and access out to both the garden and upper ground floor terrace. A new glass balustrade to the terrace further opens the views and enhances the natural lighting.
The exterior was transformed with new windows, doors, roofing tiles, smooth acrylic render, and contrasting timber-clad dormers for an overall bold modern monochrome colour palette.
