Braefoot Avenue

The client for this project approached NVDC Architects to devise a scheme that would enlarge their 2-storey family home to accommodate additional essential spaces missing in their house while enhancing the quality of light and its relationship to the garden.

NVDC's proposal was twofold; to reconfigure and extend the house on the ground floor creating the additional essential spaces required for modern family life and a new open plan family space with views and level access onto the rear garden, and secondly, to introduce 3 new dormers on the first floor to create the required additional floor space.

Strategically placed roof lights have also been used to flood the house in daylight, even on the cloudiest days in Scotland.

The key move in the overall design and composition is a single-storey flat-roofed extension to the rear and a relocated kitchen combined with the opening up of the playroom into the new kitchen family space providing the family with a single flowing space that they can all enjoy together simultaneously.

A message from our client:

“We have found the process of working with Farahbod very easy, he has taken on board our requirements and comments then provided exciting designs as we have gone through the iterative process in designing our extension works. He has been receptive to all of our ideas, providing feedback and reasons when he felt that some of them may not work. We are very happy with the service he has provided.”
